I got to meet Kelsey and Daniel through a mentorship with Valory Evalyn! I drove 5 hours to Whiskeytown from San Jose—which turned into 6 hours because of traffic—but it was so well worth the drive to photograph these two!
Valory and I met at a coffee shop in downtown Redding first to chat about business goals, client experience, web design and SEO, you name it. It was a good chance for us to connect as photographers and as people before starting the photoshoot.
Around sunset, we parked just by the edge of the water—we were high enough to be able to get full visibility of the lake and watch the sun go down. Kelsey and Daniel were some of the most joyful and down-to-earth people that I’ve met and you could see the love, care, and tenderness the had towards each other.
Photographing them was such a pleasure as they pretty much just giggled and snuggled the entire session!
This shoot took place only a few days before the destructive Carr fire which was a large wildfire that burned in the Shasta/Trinity region of California. The fire destroyed 200,00+acres before it was 100% contained late last month. I was so devastated by this news but also so humbled that I was able to capture such beauty before it was wiped away.
Forest fires gives way to new life and is a chance for regrowth and I can’t wait to go back again to see how it has changed and evolved.
I think most relationships go through periods of extreme hardships, but it only makes them stronger together for going through it. It was an amazing experience to meet Kelsey and Daniel and to learn from Valory.
