Photo of me with a few of my completed pieces

My approach is abstract, personal, and intuitive. It’s an attempt to express my thoughts which often reveal my inner emotions.

I have always been the sort of person that finds beauty in ordinary things. And just how no two sunsets are ever the same, every day nature paints a new picture for us to explore and find inspiration. My artwork is very much influenced by elements of the natural world — earthy elements, neutral tones, and texture are the foundation to my artistic style.

I start off each painting on a wooden panel with a base of acrylic paint, limestone powder, and earth pigment dust. I use texture just as much as I use color, because it conveys emotion just as clearly. It’s the same tactile factor we love when we flip the pages of a book, or feeling the earth beneath our feet.

I then add several layers of coffee or tea, watercolor and acrylics, salt, and pastels to add depth and storytelling to each piece—replicating the forces of nature at work.

I rarely have a vision in mind for each painting, but rather mostly a feeling I want each painting to represent, as I like working and exploring certain themes to my work with each collection. I love the stage of painting where everything is still wet and flowing. I’m really only there to help guide things along, but the paints want to tell their own story and I think that is so beautiful.

The moments when I talk to people about my art, about why I paint, about the messages in the paintings allow me to be heard in a new way, to express myself beyond words. My sincere hope is my art inspires you to slow down and be present in the moment—enough to notice the ever-present beauty that exists in our imperfect world.

Inspired by Nature

The Unearthed Collection is inspired by my own journey in motherhood. A journey filled with so much change, loss of identity, and finding out that true contentment comes from knowing and loving yourself first.
